With each passing day, our environment is under stress due to increased amounts of air pollution. The problem is that most people don’t even realize that they are totally wasting our resources. For each man or women on our planet, just under 4 liters of water is lost each day. Mathematically, considering that there are many billions dwelling on our planet, research exhibits that people are wasting water that totals over 2 billion gallons daily.

Recently I was visiting some relatives in Northern California. On the way back I stayed at one of the beautiful Carmel hotels and while there read an article about one of the Carmel inns that had implemented some new ways to conserve water. I thought it might be great to cover some of the things I picked up. In this article we are going to focus on several ways that water is being wasted, and also a few simple things you can do to help prevent the waste. These are very simple measures that take no more work from you, apart from the fact that you will need to keep them in mind throughout your day.

You can certainly preserve water by not wasting when you brush your teeth. Initially this may seem silly but if many people did this, it would quickly add up to be a big saving. Also remember that there are billions of men and women, that’s why it can all add up to a substantial total. Some people brush their teeth twice, once in the am and also once at night. The truth is, studies show that while brushing, 90% of individuals leave the water running. Just under 8 liters of water is actually lost in about 3 minutes to the sewage ducts which is a huge waste. Again this for billions of individuals, and that is multiple billions of gallons of water thrown away every day. All this wastage in water can be prevented by turning off the tap when brushing your teeth.

Yet another thing that people do to waste water is definitely their washing laundry. Today I recognize that you need to do laundry. Try your best to get a whole load before running the cycle and avoid doing so with only a few pieces of clothing. The wash and rinse cycle uses on average about 30 gallons of water, irrespective of how many items are being washed. Try to remember to adjust the water level on the washer to match your requirements for the specific load that you are running. You may possibly also merely wait until you have a full load of laundry to wash.

One very last matter to remember should be to save water when washing your car. Keeping a clean motor vehicle is very important but always try your best to conserve as much water as possible when washing it. About 380 liters of water is used if you don’t turn off the tap while washing your car. Try and preserve as much water as possible. Try and take your car to be washed at a car wash whenever you can. They ordinarily reuse the water so that minimal water is kept unused.
