Global warming and aggregate climate change are two of the greatest challenges the world faces today. People of various ages and nationalities have mad joint efforts in dealing with global warming by campaigning for the practice of recycling, biofuel utilization, using CFC-free products, and of course, by planting a lot of trees. Many consider tree planting as an excellent solution. But as global warming has worsened through the years, trees and all other plants seem to have problems with growth; in tolerating harmful environmental factors; and in capturing too much carbon dioxide.
With the help of science and technology, there are now genetically improved performance enhancing plants. From being a haploid or diploid-celled organism, plants can now be polyploidy with slight genetic engineering. From the simplest algae to really tall trees, scientists are able to create special plants that are tougher, yield more harvest, and work better as carbon reservoir. These plants are still considered natural parts of the ecosystem as they are not genetically modified, nor are they injected with foreign genes.
Due to their polyploidy characteristics, performance enhancing plants grow more quickly. And because of its speedy growth, there is an increase of about 15%-30% of harvest. So farmers yield more crops, and environmentalists get to grow more trees. The same plants are also stronger and more tolerant to drought, salinity, and other harsh factors. So we need not worry about constantly losing what ought to save planet earth. The plants are also found to have a larger mature size, and more seed and fruit. And as a global warming management solution, performance enhancing plants can actually absorb carbon dioxide by up to 50% more. And because of the branching behavior possessed by such plants, more will also be capturing carbon dioxide. If these special plants would be used continually for afforestation, it would make such a big difference as some afforestation projects have been found to contribute over a hundred percent increase in local cloud and rainfall; and lower the average temperatures by a whopping 5 degrees Celsius.
